4 Ways to Stick to Your Spring Workouts
Now that there is no Tuesday Zumba you'll have time to get outside to workout in some fresh air!

1. Get it Together. No more oversleeping or skipping workouts for happy hour. You need to make a plan to get into shape and stick with it. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Focus on getting healthy and fit, and the weight loss will happen.

2. Slow but Steady. Don’t succumb to the weekend warrior syndrome. Try to get some exercise 3-4 times per week on alternate days.

3. Change Up Your Cardio Weightlifting and calisthenics help build muscle. Cardio helps get rid of the unwanted fat. Unfortunately, most people are guilty of heading out the door and doing the same old run or ride day after day. Guess what? They see the same old results. You've got to change it up and shock your body. That's why we never do the same Zumba routines!

4. Remember to Have Fun. Keep in mind that this is spring training which is a time for fun, light-hearted exercise. So just relax and enjoy your activity.

class announcement

Starting in April classes will be:

• Mondays 5:30-6:30p
• Mondays 6:45-7:45p
• Tuesdays NO CLASS
• Wednesdays 5:30-6:30p

I have lots going on with my full time job at Hallmark and my indie biz, dirty laundry. Mr. John Scott doesn't want me to get burnt out and you guys will have to scrape me off the floor in class on day :O

There will be not replacement for me for Tuesday night's class. I will continue to be the only Scott Fitness Zumba instructor and I will continue to instruct only at Scott Fitness.

I hope this will work for your schedules. I felt that keeping the Monday night class would allow the late night folks to still be able to come AND you still get three class if you do both classes on Monday (which lots of you do anyway).

This class change will begin Monday, April 5th.

Thank you so much for your support! And no pouty faces... this was very hard decision for me.

I'll see you in class!!!

I got some new shoes!

I'm a Zumba nerd... I just ordered some new Zumba brand shoes today! The Z1.
It has two specially designed pivot points that allow you to slide and grip when the moment calls for it. The Z1 shoe will keep you quick on your feet with an ultra-breathable upper and midsole, and give you maximum support with a molded footbed, soft foam and rubber outsole, and TPU heel support.

More than just super comfortable,
it's kickin' hot in black and white with Zumba logos on the sides and bottom. As a bonus, you also get five sets of shoelaces in assorted colors to keep your look fresh wherever you go!

Whew-wee!!! You heard that?!? The shoe is kickin' hot! You guys better watch out when I get them in the mail. I'm going to be strutin' my stuff!

HOW MUCH DO WE REALLY KNOW ABOUT THE FOOD WE BUY AT OUR LOCAL SUPER MARKETS?
In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.

Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually.

We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

what I'm listening too

I have lots of favorite songs. I think each Sunday I'm going to post what I'm listening too. Maybe the song will show up as a Zumba routine!

- - - - - - - -

New Music from Janelle MonĂ¡e "Tightrope" feat Outkast's Big Boi.

I love her punk-rock-soul sound. This song is so creative with a 50s / 60s Big Band sound. Even a ukulele! And Janelle is from Kansas City!!!

Thanks to Franchesca for posting! For I would have never found this gem.

Who is SICK of all of this snow other than me? UGH!

Did you know that exercise is a cure for the winter blues? Exercise stimulates chemicals in the brain that help improve mood.

So join the party and ZUMBA!

this week in ZUMBA

ZUMBA MUSIC THIS WEEK:
• Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: smorgasbord + the Beyonce section (you guys seemed to have enjoyed that)

14 day's 'til Valentine's Day ♥

Valentines Day is a holiday where we can pig out on chocolate and wine. Yummy! The successes you create in your personal relationships with those you love in your life can be strengthened if you begin to parallel it with the love you maintain for fitness (or better yet, ZUMBA!).

Love in a relationship is no different from your love for fitness. If you are able to understand the similarities, maybe you will be able to become more patient, loving, understanding and attentive to the people you love.

1. Don't Just Find Any Partner, Find The Best Partner.
Believe that you are worthy of only the best. Do not settle with someone who satisfies the minimal requirements.

2. Let Your Emotions Guide You.
Let your emotion drive you to become better than you think you can become. Let your emotions inspire you to train harder, workout longer, become more disciplined so that you can achieve your goal of being the lean, mean, love machine you envision yourself to become. Oooh la la!

3. Never Forget Your First Intentions.
When you are with someone for a long time, you tend to forget the reasons why you are together. As years pass and memories are forgotten, you lose many original feelings of love, excitement, happiness and achievement. Don't ever forget why you fell in love!

4. Balance Your Relationship With The Rest Of Your Life.
A relationship is a part of your life. It doesn't have to be your life! Supplement your already happy life by having a relationship, working out, hanging out with friends, or excelling at your profession.

There is a strong balance between the body, mind and spirit. Understand that fitness is only a thing to supplement your already 'happy' lifestyle, not the center of your happiness in your life.

5. Don't Get Stuck In A Routine!
Most couples get stuck in a routine. They tend to eat, sleep and occasionally "play" together. The fact is, routine sets in and the relationship begins to get boring. Be open minded about planning exciting trips, hanging out with different people, stimulating interesting conversations, or playing with each other physically. That's what I'm talkin' about!

Try to make it Valentines Day, everyday!

Last week I mentioned the moroccan sweet potato salad by o pistachio.

Well I made it!

Moroccan sweet potato salad from o pistachio blog
• brown rice
Morningstar Farms® Grillers® Chik'n Veggie Patties

It came out decent. I would have been better if I put the correct amounts of ginger, cumin and paprika :O It was a little bland. But I'm going to make it again this week the correct way to bring to work for lunch or a snack.

I'll see you in class! Be ready to "Put A Ring On It!"

this week in ZUMBA

Hey! I'm looking forward to another week of class. We've been up to 40+ folks dancing their tails off. There is plenty of room. You guys don't have to stand in two straight rows like we're in the military. Stagger yourselves and you can come up front. I don't bite. In other words, just be mindful of everyone's space.

ZUMBA MUSIC THIS WEEK:
• Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: some of everything

We're going to be doing what we've been doing since the new year -- just mixed up a bit :)

Healthy Recipes for
Seasonal Fall and Winter Foods

I know food gets pretty boring in the winter. I hate trying to decide what's for dinner every night. So here is something to try.

Sweet Potato
Health benefits: Bursting with vitamin A (377 percent of your daily recommended intake per cup!) and high in potassium and fiber, this versatile vegetable can be worked into a variety of dishes, from sides to desserts. One point to note: Its high sugar content translates into a fair number of calories, so consider this ingredient more like a starch than a vegetable.

Nutrition: (1 cup, raw) 114 calories, 0.1g fat, 26.8g carbohydrates, 4g fiber, 2.1g protein

I really want to try this moroccan sweet potato salad by o pistachio.

Let me know if you try it!

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

ZUMBA MUSIC THIS WEEK:

I have a couple of new songs this week. Including Kid Sister's "Right Hand Hi."

Introducing Z-LIFE Magazine
Written FOR Zumba lovers BY Zumba lovers, Z-LIFE will cover music, fashion, health, fitness, work and home life, travel and adventure. It won't be available for me to order until March 1st. I'll probably purchase a few copies to share with those who are interested.

And... last Tuesday there was a whopping 41 folks in class! I'm so happy to have new, regular and returning faces. Unfortunately with the snow storm on Wednesday only 7 were able to make it. Hopefully the weather will hold up this week!!!

See you in class!

ZUMBA MUSIC THIS WEEK:
• Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: world - Latin, belly dancing, and hip-hop

I'm working on some new routines. I'll probably add 1-2 each week. So for right now I'm bringing back some old and mixing in some recent stuff.

I got a new iPod!

My husband got me a new iPod for Christmas. Now maybe I won't be having technical issues like I did last year. It's a (PRODUCT) RED iPod so a portion of the purchase goes to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. It's so shiny red I wanna eat it!

2010 Health Resolutions?
The number one New Year's resolution people make is to lose weight. Unfortunately, many people become overzealous and commit to unrealistic goals that they end up giving up on mid January.

People who lose weight slowly are more likely to keep the weight off. Most people try drastic fad diets that they grow tired of quickly. These resolutions are not drastic and you barely have to change the way you eat. Losing weight slowly is healthier and easier. Making small changes will also help you change your eating habits permanently without feeling deprived. Try some of these steps.

STEP 1
Drop those high calorie sodas

STEP 2
Stop snacking on junk food

STEP 3
Swap high calorie lattes for a low calorie beverage

STEP 4
Look at the fast foods you eat

STEP 5
Add exercise

STEP 6
Give it a try
